'Compared with the 1999 Grande Annee, this wine looks almost indecently cheap for such a deservedly famous house. Typically 60 per cent pinot noir, 25 per cent chardonnay and 15 per cent pinot meunier, a substantial part is still fermented in old oak barrels. This, plus the inclusion of about 7 per cent reserve wines up to 15 years old, makes this the most complex and instantly recognisable non-vintage.
